Julie graduated with a first class honours degree in both Zoology & Physiology from Salford University and obtained her PhD in physiology at King’s College, London and held a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Oxford and a JRF (Linacre College, Oxford). She is a Director and she created Symbiosis IP in 2008 to offer intellectual property advice to the Life Science community.
She has experience in all aspects of intellectual property in the Life Sciences with expertise in relation to diagnostics, medical devices, gene therapy, microbiology, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer and stem cell therapies.
Julie acts for Universities and blue chip clients offering advice at the highest corporate level in the UK, Europe and Far East. In addition she is experienced in Opposition and Appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office. She has a deep understanding of dispute resolution in relation to inventorship, infringement and freedom to operate, obtained from her extensive experience gained during her career in the patent profession. She also advises clients on sensible patent filing strategies to maximise the value of her clients’ patent portfolios.
